The device includes a yarn gripper(6) which releases a weft(Y) during its insertion and clamps it for the duration from which insertion is completed to which the following insertion begins. A weft insertion arrangement(5) with a compressed fluid jet nozzle(30) is located upstream to the gripper and the jet nozzle is aligned with the path of the weft. The yarn gripper includes a valve mechanism(9) permitting the passage (27-28) for compressed fluid. When the weft is released from the gripper for its insertion, the valve mechanism allows the compressed fluid to flow down to the jet nozzle.
