Improved apparatus intended to allow the operations of washing of suspended solid materials in a liquid phase for removing therefrom solubilized materials and/or effecting accurate granulometric separations of solid materials suspended within said phase, said apparatus comprising a vertical column wherein are arranged horizontal perforated plates (15), means for the supply of the suspension to be treated (10) and for the supply of the treatment and extraction liquid (7) for the treated suspension as well as a pulsating device (6), characterized in that, for a column comprising N actually implanted perforated plates, having each a surface S, a perforation coefficient p, p being the ratio between the total surface area of perforation and the surface area of said plate, the pulsating device delivering the total of volumes V alternatively transferred upwardly and downwardly per time unit, the liquid used for the washing or granulometric separation having a density dn whereas the liquid coming out by overflow has a density do and in that the suspended solid materials have a density ds, g being the gravitational acceleration, a diameter O of the perforations and an average distance (1) between said perforations are so selected that a coefficient K1 associating the technical characteristics of said column is adjusted and defined by the equation <IMAGE> at a value at least equal to 10 and preferably comprised between 20 and 300. |
