Novel N,N-dimethyl-O-imidazol-4-yl-carbamic acid esters of the formula (I) in which R represents optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and cycloalkyl radicals, R<1> represents hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and cycloalkyl radicals and R<2> represents hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and cycloalkyl radicals. They are obtained by reacting 4-hydroxyimidazoles with N,N-dimethylcarbamic halides of the formula The novel N,N-dimethyl-O-imidazol-4-yl-carbamic acid esters of the formula (I) are distinguished by a high pesticidal activity.
