PURPOSE:To reduce the smear component and to increase the light increment degree, by forming a transparent film having a smooth surface and a refractive index equal to or larger than that of a transparent insulated film on said insulated film formed on the surface of an image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:A transparent insulated film 22 is formed on the surface of a photoelectric converting element in order to protect opaque films 14 and 14', and a transparent film 40 is coated over the film 40. The refractive index is equal to each other between the films 40 and 22, and a single side of the film 40 is smoothed. Under such conditions, the optical path of the light made incident vertically to a single side of a transparent plate 41 is kept vertical to said surface up to the inside of a substrate 10. The light which is made incident vertically up to the inside of the substrate 10 is converted into the elctric charge 43 at the inside of a diffusion layer 11 or in the region right under the layer 11. The charge 43 which is produced inside the layer 11 and a pn deplection layer formed by the layer 11 and the substrate 10 is stored into the layer 11 in the form of the signal charge. It is allowed to use the refractive index of the film 40 larger than that of the film 22. |
