PURPOSE:To perform continuous casting operations easily and efficiently by casting a square ingot of prescribed dimensions then moving a pair of right and left wall bodies, placing partition members which are adjustable in length in lateral directions on the cast ingot and charging molten metal on the partition members. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of casting a square ingot 17 of prescribed dimensions by charging molten steel into a casting mold 1 then casting a fresh ingot 18 of dimensions longer in lateral directions than the ingot 17 continuously, first a pair of right and left wall bodies 3, 3 are moved in conformity with the dimensions of the ingot 18. On the other hand, the mounting positions of partition pieces 9, 9 at both ends are adjusted to adjust the length of partition members 5 whereby said length is made coincident with the length in the lateral directions of the ingot 18. The adjusted members 5 are placed on the peak part of the cast ingot 17 in the mold 1 so as to isolated the space 4 above and below, and projecting lines 7 are submerged into the ingot 17. In succession, the molten metal is again charged onto the members 5 in the space 4 to cast the ingot 18, whereby the lines 6 are embedded into the ingot 18. |
