PURPOSE:To dissolve the mold additives to be used in the stage of continuous casting of molten steel into cooling water for ingots and to prevent the corrosion of the body of a casting machine, concrete installations, etc. by forming said additives of specific compsns. contg. no fluorides. CONSTITUTION:The mold additives to be used in the stage of casting molten steel continuously are of such compsns. which contain 30-45% CaO, 30-45% SiO2, 3-20% 1 or >=2 kinds among Na2O, K2O, Li2O, 3-6% total C or further contain 2-5% Al2O3 and which make CaO/SiO2 compounding ratio 0.68-1.2. If such mold additives are used, the cooling water and secondary cooling water for continuous casting ingots are made neutral with 6.5-7.5pH when said additives are dissolved therein, whereby the corrosion of mechanical installations and concrete installations by the acidic water as in conventional casses of using fluorides is obviated, and the service life of these installations is prolonged. |
