PURPOSE:To get rid of influence of a DC drift, by switching at a high speed the direction of incident light of right turn and left turn to a fiber ring, by use of an optical switch, so that the detecting output does not become a DC portion only even if the angular velocity is constant. CONSTITUTION:When light is made incident to a ringlike optical fiber through a semi-transparent mirror 4, reflectors 7, 8, and an optical switch 9 from a light source 1, light 5 of right turn is emitted from a fiber end face 11, passes through the reflector 8 and the semi-transparent mirror 4, in case when the optical switch 9 is in an on-state[figure (a)], and on the other hand, light 6 of left turn is emitted from an end face 10, passes through the reflector 7 and the semi- transparent mirror 4, and reaches a photodetector 2. On the contrary, when the optical switch 9 is off[figure (b)], the path of light which is made incident to the fiber becomes reverse. Therefore, when a switching time of the switch 9 is made equal to the time when the light propagates through a fiber ring 3, a phase difference of light of right turn and left turn can be detected in an alternating current manner even if the angular velocity is constant. |
