Assemblies are initially in a vertical position when they are lifted out of a reactor vessel into a discharge pond(a). In pond(a), an assembly is placed in a swivel holder or balancelle located on one end of the trolley. The holder is then swivelled through 90 deg. so the assembly is in a horizontal position on the trolley, which is next pulled by a chain through a horizontal tunnel connecting pond(a) to a deactivation pond(b). In pond(b), the holder is swung back to its vertical position, so a hoist can be used to remove the assembly and place it in a rack. Used esp. in nuclear power stations using a pressurised water nuclear reactor.
|
