Loom has independently-controlled warp let-off and cloth take-up mechanisms comprising irreversible gear-trains driven by separate hydraulic motors. The warp-sheet tension is monitored by a mechanical sensor giving an input to a data processing unit which controls the speed of the warp let-off motor. The cloth take-up is driven by a second hydraulic motor functioning as a step motor under the control of a pulsed output from a second data processor. The data-processing units may be programmed to vary the speeds of the motors during weaving to obtain novel structures and special effects. This facilitates adjustment and control of the take-up and let-off rates, and enables novel effects to be produced. The gear trains prevent relaxation of tension during stoppages, eliminating stop bars in the fabric.
|
