<p>PURPOSE:To detect assuredly the line part only of a character and to read the characters of low quality with high accuracy, by checking with a local process whether the black picture element is a part of the character line or not. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern 2 on a recording medium 1 is converted into electric signals proportional to the density, and then transfered to a storage device 8 in the form of digital signals which show the density levels. A binary coding device 9 converts a multi-value character pattern within a recorder 8 into a white/black binary code with a low threshold level and sends it to a storage device 11. A thin line processor 12 turns black picture elements which are less than a high threshold level and decided by a high threshold level deciding device 10 into thin lines with use of a binary character pattern in the storage device 11 and the multi-value character pattern of the storage device 8. The result of this operation is transferred to a storage device 13. Then a local processor 14 obtains the contrast information on the basis of the black picture element less than the threshold level of a thin line character pattern within the device 13 and in reference to a multi-value character pattern in the device 8 and then decides again the propriety of the black picture element.</p> |
