A TiCl3 polymn. catalyst complex was pred. by reducing TiCl4 with an organometallic compds. and then activating the resulting reduced solids with a chlorinated hydrocarbon and TiCl4 in the presence of Lewis base complexing agent to produce a synergetic activating effect. In an example. TiCl4 was reduced to TiCl3 with Et2AlCl and TiCl4 in the presence of C6H4 to give a purple solid catalyst which gave 141g isotatic polypropylene per 1g catalyst. When the brown solids were treated with any of the activating compds. sep., the catalytic efficiency and the isotacticity were much lower.
