PURPOSE:To enhance the machinability of SUS304 stainless steel without deteriorating the tensile strength, fatigue strength and corrosion resistance by adding specified amounts of S, Pb, etc. to the steel. CONSTITUTION:SUS304 stainless steel used as a material for a spring and an antenna is provided with a composition consisting of 0.06-0.15% C, 0.1-1.0% Mo, <=0.045% P, <=2.0% Mn, 18-20% Cr, 8-10.5% Ni, <=1.0% Si, 0.020-0.140% S, 0.03-0.3% Pb, <=0.01% Ca and the balance Fe. A rolled wire rod of the stainless steel is subjected to soln. heat treatment and cold or warm drawn at >=50% reduction rate of area so that the tensile strength TS (kg/mm.<2>) of the resulting wire satisfies equationI(where d is the diameter of the wire). The machinability of the stainless steel can be enhanced without deteriorating the tensile strength, fatigue strength and corrosion resistance. |
