In the processing of cracked gases, which were generated by gasification of solid or liquid fuels with steam and oxygen under pressure and at elevated temperature and which are further processed to form H2-CO synthesis gases or H2-N2 synthesis gases, problems arise due to the blockage of equipment by metal sulphides. The metal sulphides are formed by a reaction of sulphur compounds with metal carbonyls. In particular, it has been found that the metal sulphides arise in the course of the hot regeneration of scrubbing agents which are used for the removal of carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and metal carbonyls from the gas. To avoid metal sulphide deposits in the course of the regeneration of such scrubbing agents, it is proposed according to the invention to provide, for the reaction products within the scrubbing agent, a large surface area in the form of solids which have a large surface area, are inert to the solvent and to the substances dissolved therein and may have been finely ground. Activated carbon, solids impregnated with metal sulphides, activated carbon impregnated with metal sulphides, gasification soot, finely ground metal sulphides themselves, silica or certain organic polymers of large surface area have proved suitable as substances having large surface areas.
