PURPOSE:To prevent any luminance nonuniformity of an electric discharge lamp, and enhance the quality of the lamp by installing an inner case having a meandering groove serving as a discharge path in an outer case, and applying a phosphor only on the entire inner wall of the outer case and on parts of the inner case which correspond to the groove. CONSTITUTION:After an inner case 2, which is provided with a continuous groove 4 forming a discharge path, is placed in a spherical or cylindrical outer case 1, the openings of the cases 1 and 2 are fused airtightly. Here, electrodes 5 and 6 are installed at both ends of the discharge path. A rare gas such as mercury or helium is charged into an encircling case consisting of the inner and the outer cases 2 and 1. In addition, a phosphor 9 is applied only on the entire inner wall of the outer case 1 and on parts of the outer surface of the inner case 2 which correspond to the groove 4, in order to obtain visible emission. As a result, the efficiency of an electric discharge lamp can be enhanced by improving the luminance nonuniformity developed between the groove 4 and the parts other than the groove 4. Besides, the cost of the lamp can be reduced by simplifying the manufacture. |
