Process for desorbing organic gases adsorbed on adsorbents from a carrier gas

In a process for desorbing organic gases adsorbed on adsorbents from a carrier gas, by flushing the adsorbent within a reactor with a gas (flushing gas), which is partially adsorbed in the process, a reduction of the energy expenditure in an environmentally safe manner and recovery of the organic gas are achieved by using as the flushing gas a carbon oxide or hydrocarbon having one carbon atom per molecule at a pressure (desorption pressure) below the pressure prevailing during the adsorption; in the process, the flushing gas can be displaced by the carrier gas in another adsorption step, and in the desorption step can be freed of desorbed organic gas at a pressure higher than the desorption pressure and be reused for desorption. <IMAGE>
