The original stage on a photographic copying apparatus for film pieces (10) introduced on a long strip (9) has a baseplate (3) with a masking window (11). A cover plate (4) likewise having a masking window (13) interacts with this baseplate. Guiding elements (8) lead the strip (9) through the copying station. In this case, at least one of the edges (11b, 13b) of the film running surfaces of the two mask windows (11, 13), running at right angles to the direction of transport (13) of the film pieces (10), is at an angle alpha of greater than 90 DEG to the edges (11a, 13a) running parallel to the direction of transport. The desired masking window (11a, 11c) is provided in another plane at a greater distance to the film running surfaces. The transverse edges (11b, 13b) of the masking windows (11, 13) are either broken and run at an obtuse angle to each other or they are formed in an arch shape. <IMAGE>
