The railway track tamping machine, esp. with an arrangement for levelling and alignment, has longitudinally spaced tamping heads on a bogie. At least one head is individually movable rearwards in the course of the tamping cycle, and then forwards, independently of the other heads. - Each tamping head (17) is movable rearwards on the bogie (11), with an additional sliding device (P), during the tamping cycle. This is done at a speed corresponding to the bogie rate of advance on the track.(1/1)
