The invention relates to an apparatus for the storage of cheque cards or the like which makes it possible to carry the latter in a theft-proof manner and safe from improper use. This apparatus consists of a stable metal housing with a lateral slit for the insertion or removal of the card and a locking device in its interior which holds the card securely after insertion. The latter can only be removed again if a certain combination of numbers and/or letters is set by means of locking wheels arranged externally on the apparatus, which act to release the lateral slit. The apparatus according to the invention can be used for all standardised identification cards, especially cheque cards, but also credit cards and magnetic cards. It can of course also be produced with larger dimensions so that it is also suitable for the storage of other important papers, such as passbooks, driver's licence, etc.
