In electrical flow heaters equipped with tubular heaters for liquid media not only is a good, as loss-free as possible heat transfer between the tubular heater and the medium to be heated required but said heat transfer is also required to be as uniform as possible, i.e. that no excessively high surface loadings occur which result in stiff lime encrustations which in turn reduce the service life of the heater or even result in malfunctions in the device concerned. These requirements are fulfilled in the novel flow heater by making the flow tube of the heater from an outer tube and an inner tube of smaller diameter, placing one or more tubular heaters between the walls of these tubes and embedding them in a metal powder, and by compressing this structure into a unit under high pressure, thus highly compacting the metal powder, and by installing this structure as a heating insert in a larger container used to convey the medium to be heated.
