At least two beacons selectively emit radio signals carrying synchronous time-markers. The moving body carries equipment (203) capable of emitting an asynchronous time-marker. A chosen beacon returns this time-marker which is received (205), the out-and-back time (208) representing 2RR, twice the distance from the moving body to the chosen beacon. The reception (215; 215') of the synchronous radio signals gives pseudo-distances which can be corrected bearing in mind the distance 2RR. <IMAGE>
