PURPOSE:To prepare methacrolein by the oxidation of isobutylene or t-butanol using a catalyst composed mainly of Mo and containing Te, Fe, Ni, Cu, Mg, Tl, Pb, O, etc. and having excellent resistance to reduction. CONSTITUTION:Methacrolein is prepared by oxidizing isobutylene or t-butanol with molecular oxygen using a catalyst represented by formula (a-g are molar numbers of respective atoms per 12mol of Mo, and a=0.1-6, b=0.1-6, c= 0.1-6, d=0.1-6, e=0.1-8, f=0.1-3, g=0-8, and h is a number determined by a-g; X is Mg, Ca, Ba or Sr; Y is Tl, Rb or Cs). The combination of Cu and the X-component (especially Mg) improves the reduction resistance of the catalyst, and the addition of the Y-component (especially Tl) remarkably improves the selectivity of the objective compound. The presence of Pb in an amount of the above range is also effective to improve the selectivity. |
