PURPOSE:In the presence of a novel silica-alumina catalyst, which has high reproducibility and long life and is prepared in low costs by calcining at a specific temperature, and of steam, the catalytic reaction of a tertiary ether is carried out to produce a high-purity olefin in high conversion and high selectivity. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a tertiary olefin such as isobutylene by the catalytic reaction of a tertiary ether such as methyl t-butyl ether or ethyl t- butyl ether, a silica-alimina that is prepared by calcining at 700-1,100 deg.C, preferably 750-1,000 deg.C is used as a catalyst and the reaction is carried out in the presence of steam. |
