PURPOSE:To finish a cut surface to a flat surface, and also to secure stabilization of its molecular structure, by heating the cut surface by stress, at a temperature which is equal to a melting point of a core or a little higher. CONSTITUTION:A covering layer of an optical fiber 1 and a pre-coat 2 are removed, and thereafter, a flaw 4 is made on the outside circumference of a part to be cut, in the optical fiber, by use of a cutting tool 3 such as a diamond cutter, etc., subsequently, it is broken by putting stress F from the side, and after that, a cut surface 1a is heated by utilizing high voltage discharge, a flame, a nichrome wire, carbon, etc., and is finished to a flat surface having no flaw. A temperature in this case is set to a temperature which is same as a melting point of a core of the optical fiber, or a little higher than it. |
