Tertiary N-vinylamides are polymerized, optionally together with further monomers, in the presence of aliphatic hydrocarbons, at a temperature or from 0 to 150.degree.C using two types of initiator one of which is insoluble and the other soluble in the hydrocarbon used. The pulverulent or granular polymer obtained has a diminished content of residual monomer. It is suitable as protective colloid or dispersing agent for emulsion or suspension polymerizations. |
