[Also in Group XII] In a rotary kiln 1, Fig. 1, for producing pigiron, ferro alloys, carbide or phosphorous, the charge together with a portion, e.g. 50%, of the reducing agent in the form of coke or coke breeze, which is fed into one end of the kiln from a hopper 2 is reduced by uncoked hydrocarbon fuel, e.g. bituminous coal, lignite, peat and/or wood, which uncoked fuel is introduced into the intermediate portion of the kiln and the charge falls from a discharge chamber under gravity through a pipe 8 to an electric smelting furnace 9. The uncoked fuel is fed from a hopper 11 through a feeder 12, Fig. 2, and shoot 13 into a trough 14 beneath the kiln from which it is scooped by curved pipes 15 which project through the wall of the kiln.</p> |
