The firing grate of a waste combustion installation consists of grate bars (5a, 5b) with a grate support (8) for the material to be burned. On the underside of these grate bars are flow ducts for cooling air. The end side of the grate bars is provided with an outlet (16) into the combustion chamber. The outlets serve for the lateral supply of cooling air as combustion air. By expedient design of the geometry of the grate bar, an optimum cooling effect and uniform distribution of the secondary combustion air on the grate support can be achieved. As a result, there is uniform combustion, extensively independently of the waste bed. The uniform design of the grate bars makes maintenance and stocking replacement parts easier. <IMAGE>
