PURPOSE:To obtain a carrier which can be dispersed uniformly in blood serum, urine, etc. and adsorbs proteins easily in its micropores, by introducing methylol groups into a porous crosslinked styrene polymer obtained by the polymerization of styrene monomer, etc. using a water-soluble polymer protectant as a dispersing agent. CONSTITUTION:A styrene monomer and a crosslinking agent copolymerizable therewith (e.g. divinylbenzene, etc.) are mixed with 5-60pts.wt. preferably 10- 40pts.wt. (based on 100pts.wt. of the monomer and the crosslinking agent) of an aqueous solution of a water-soluble polymer (e.g. polyethylene oxide, etc.) added with a pore-regulator (an organic solvent which is miscible with the monomer, e.g. benzene) and a polymerization initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide). A porous styrene polymer having a critical exclusion molecular weight of >=30,000 can be prepared by the suspension polymerization of the mixture. The polymer is chloromethylated with chloromethyl methyl ether in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. aluminum chloride) and hydrolyzed with an alkaline system thereby coverting the chloromethyl group into methylol group to obtain the objective carrier. |
