摘要 PURPOSE:To make the response speed sufficiently fast and to prevent a cell from damage owing to swelling of an electrolytic liquid at high temp., by constituting an electrolyte of high molecules swelled by the electrolytic liquid and solidifying said electrolyte in an electrochromic display (ECD) element. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte layer 4 in which an electrolyte is solidified with high molecules swelled by an electrolytic liquid in which the electrolyte such as lithium perchlorate is dissolved in a solvent such as propylene carbonate, acetonitrile, is placed between a substrate at the display side in which an ITO film and a WO3 vapor-deposited film 3 are formed in turn on a glass substrate 1 and a glass substrate 6 at the lower side on which a gold vapor-deposited film 5 is disposed. A copolymer of a monomer of high molecules which is soluble in the electrolytic liquid and high molecules to be insoluble and high molecules in which soluble molecules are cross-linked, are used as the high molecules. For instance, high molecules to be dissolved such as polyvinyl acetate, poly(meth)-methyl acrylate and high molecules to be not dissolved such as polystyrene, PVC and a crosslinking agent such as divinylbenzene are used. By this way, an ECD cell having the sufficient response speed as compared with the electrolytic liquid and in which the cell is prevented from damage owing to swelling of the electrolytic liquid at high temp. is obtained.
