1480708 Steering column locks YMOS METALLWERKE WOLF & BECKER GmbH & CO 20 March 1975 [22 March 1974] 11698/75 Heading E2A A lock for a steering column comprises an barrel 38 axially moveable in a bush of a housing against the force of a spring, and a key operated locking slide 32 slideable radially of the barrel, one end 39 of the locking slide bearing on a cam of the bush, the other end projecting into a keyhole 31, whereupon, when the key is inserted into the keyhole it forces the locking slide into engagement with the bush wall, the slide prevent the key from further entering the barrel, and then the barrel slides until the slide 32 enters a recess in the bush preventing further axial movement of the barrel and allowing the key to fully enter the barrel. The slide may at first prevent the key from opening by either (1) forcing the key onto a cam surface as the keyhole narrows (as shown) or (ii) by merely blocking the keyhole (Fig. 1 not shown). The end 39 of the slide is bevelled so that the spring of the barrel causes the slide to return when the key is removed. |
