In a clothes-washing and spin drying machine of the type in which clothes are treated in a horizontal, cylindrical, perforated drum (4) rotating about its longitudinal axis, the drum rotates inside a watertight vessel to contain wash/rinse water. An electric motor (7) is fixed to the vessel and has a pulley which belt-drives (10) another fixed to the drum. The belt and both pulleys are inside the vessel and partly immersed during washing. The vessel assembly is suspended inside a casing by damped, resilient mountings. According to the improvement, the motor is now located so that the centre of gravity of the vessel assembly lies in the plane of symmetry perpendicular to the drum axis. This makes the machine particularly compact and minimises vibrations. |
