PURPOSE:To reduce tensile stress to be generated in the inside surface of a sleeve and to increase the strength of an assembly type roll by applying plastic compressive deformation beforehand on the inside wall of a cylindrical sleeve, and fitting the sleeve onto the outside circumference of an arbor by shrinkage or expansion fit. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical sleeve 2 is rotated by driving of a body 3 of a rotating device; at the same time, pressurizing rolls 8 are pressed to the inside wall of the sleeve 2 by cylinders 12. The rolls 8 are moved back and forth in the axial line direction of the sleeve 2 by the forward and backward movements of a table 10, whereby compressive plastic strain is applied uniformly to the inside wall of the sleeve 2. This sleeve 2 is fitted onto the outside of an arbor by shrinkage or expansion fit. The residual compressive stress in the inside wall of the sleeve 2 is offset by the tensile force generated in the stage of fitting the sleeve 2 onto the arbor, whereby the tesile stress generated in the inside surface of the sleeve 2 is decreased. |
