PURPOSE:To obtain a structural body for protecting functional materials of high strength such as breakdown, impact, abrasion or the like by coating the functional materials with aggregate for shells, etc. then sintering the same thereby forming the tough and strong porous shells having open cells. CONSTITUTION:Functional materials such as catalysts, adsorbents or the like as inside nuclei are coated with aggregate contg. no combustible materials or a mixture of such aggregate and a binder, and these are sintered to form a shell of >=3kg compressive strength having open cells, whereby the structural material for protecting the X functional materials is produced. Such structural body for protecting the functional materials has high strength in breakdown, impact, abrasion, etc. and is advantageous in industrial and practical uses. |
