<p>The cartridge has an internal chamber defined by walls in which the ribbon lies in loops. The ribbon enters and leaves the chamber via two slots at the two ends of the chamber. A spring which controls the movement of the ribbon has two parts, one of which applies a frictional braking force to the ribbon, while the other takes up some of the ribbon before it enters the operating position. A spring is a thin lamella with one end fixed. The middle portion carries a small block by which a light spring pressure is applied to grip the ribbon. The end carries a guide block with two lugs to take the ribbon. This extends at right angles to the lamella and accommodates some of the ribbon length.</p> |
