摘要 <p>The magneto mechanical converter allows relays to be made simpler and cheaper with straight forward manufacture using standard equipment. Such relays may be used over a wide range of parameters from milli amps and milli volts to kilo amps and kilo volts. They may be operated by direct current or alternating current at any frequency. For a well defined value of exitation current the elements of the converter can be adjusted to change position relative to each other very precisely in either action or reset. When the action current is reached it produces a movement with a large starting torque which may be used not only for opening and closing contacts but also for transmitting mechanical forces. Operation of the relay is not orientation dependent and a wide range of applications is envisaged in situations where control relays are used. The converter consists of a soft iron core with a permeability greater than 1.2 which is not energised, held on a flexible support between two like poles of two magnets which face each other and produce a variable magnetic field. In the rest position the core is held close to one pole piece and there is a null field in the centre of the pole gap. As the field strength of the one magnet is increased the null moves towards the core and the other pole piece, the core is demagnetised and remagnetised to be attracted towards the other pole. The field strength corresponding to the change of direction can be determined with great precision. Practical realisation of the device contain permanent and electromagnets with adjustable pole pieces and preconstrained springs.</p>
