Process for treating underground wooden construction, e.g. pilings, to protect them against biodegradation in the aerobic environment is claimed. The construction absorbs protective chemicals as soln. of alkali metal borate. Pref. the wood absorbs the chemicals by osmosis perpendicular to the fibre structure. They are transported to the wood by the ground water. The fungi and bacteria are killed by 30g of boron in 1000g of water. Before the borate treatment, the wood is treated with a silicate soln. to form a silicate skeleton in the wood. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week 83/35) |
