PURPOSE:To prevent short-circuit of a storage battery and prolong the cycle life over a long period by using an electrode plate which is made of zinc and added with copper in an atomic ratio of 2-10%, thus preventing the growth of zinc dendrite. CONSTITUTION:Each Zn electrode added with Cu in an atomic ratio of 1%, 2%, 4%, 8%, 10%, and 12%, and the Zn electrode not added with CuO were prepared, and an Ni-Zn storage battery was prepared by using said both Zn electrodes, and various kinds of storage batteries were compared through the cylce life tests. Tests were carried-out on 10 cells of each storage battery. It was cleared that from the test results that 5 cells of the storage batteries each using the Zn electrode added with Cu in an atomic ratio of 1% and the conventional Zn electrode not added with Cu show the short-circuit phenomenon, and the storage battery using the Zn electrode added with Cu in an atomic ratio of 2% or more does not show the short-circuit phenomenon at all even after the lapse of 100cycles in each case. While, the storage battery using the Zn electrode added with Cu in an atomic ratio of 12% proved to be deteriorated in performance of being charged. |
