The salts of formula II, in which R<1> and R<2> are hydrogen atoms, or lower alkyl, arylalkyl or phenyl radicals which are optionally inertly substituted, R<3> is a lower alkyl, arylalkyl or phenyl radical which is optionally inertly substituted, or R<1> and/or R<2> and/or R<3> form a 5- to 7-membered ring, are antibacterial agents. They increase the effect of penicillins and cephalosporins against many beta -lactamase-producing bacteria. The compounds are obtained by reacting clavulanic acid with an amine of the formula III. <IMAGE>
