A cassette audiotape apparatus having a recording device for a cassette and having an actuating device for adjusting a magnetic head for sensing the audiotape between an operating position and an out-of-operation position. The actuating device can be switched on by a switching element, which is arranged laterally next to the cassette located in the receiving device, in such a way that it can be actuated in the direction of the cassette by the closing movement of the hand when grasping the cassette. This ensures that, when the cassette is removed from the apparatus, the magnetic head is automatically moved out of engagement with the cassette without the user first of all having to free the lateral cassette edge by pressing down switching elements. <IMAGE>
