The invention relates to a process for recovering aroma substances from a tobacco extract obtainable with organic solvents, by mixing the tobacco extract with an adsorbent, treating the resulting mixture in an extraction vessel with CO2 under extraction conditions, and recovering tobacco aroma oil in a downstream separation vessel. The invention also relates to the use of the obtainable tobacco aroma oil for application to tobacco.
