PURPOSE:To obtain a stable and reliable display by forming an EC material of an electric charge migrating complex and an electron acceptor which constitutes an electric charge migrating type complex plastically when applied with voltage or a compd. which has a higher electron donative property than the electron donor. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2 are vapor deposited on a transparent substrate 1, and a layer 7 contg. an electric charge migrating complex is formed thereon. A soln. 6 of a material which constitutes an electron acceptor or an electron donor when applied with voltage is laminated on the counter electrode 4 on a transparent substrate 3 through a spacer 5, whereby an EC element is formed. When positive voltage is applied on the electrode 2 side by setting a switch 8 at (a), an electron acceptor of high activity is formed by electrochemical reaction and recouples to the electron donor constituting an electric charge migrating complex, thereby forming a new electric charge migrating complex. Then the color tone changes and the display conforming to the patterns of the transparent electrodes appears. When the voltage in a reverse direction is applied (c) thereto, the display is erased, thus the EC element wherein the stable displays are obtained repeatedly is obtained. |
