PURPOSE:To obtain an EC display element of solid phase type having excellent thermal stability by subjecting zeolite powder to an ion exchange treatment with hydrochloric acid, etc. to form powder of acid type, sandwiching the same between a coloring film and a rear electrode, and compressing the same under pressure thereby forming an electric charge migrating medium. CONSTITUTION:Zeolite powder such as synthetic mordenite type zeolite is subjected to an ion exchange treatment for 30min at about 90 deg.C by a batch system in an aq. soln. of 0.1N hydrochloric acid under the conditions of 5ml/g solid- liquid ratio. After the powder is washed with distilled water, the powder is filtered and is then dried at 120 deg.C, whereby the mordenite type zeolite powder of acid type is obtained. Such zeolite powder is disposed between a glass substrate 1 formed with transparent display electrodes 2 and a coloring film 3 of WO3 and a rear electrode and is sandwiched between Al plates. The laminates are compressed under pressure to form an electrolyte layer 4 consisting of zeolite, whereby an ECD element is obtained. The element provides the EC display element having a function as a solid electrolyte and good thermal stability. |
