In rock stabilisation in underground mining and tunnelling as well as in other applications, the boreholes are sealed off by means of a borehole plug which is restrained in the borehole. The plug is restrained by virtue of the fact that a sealing ring, arranged between a clamping disc and a check disc, is compressed and pressed against the borehole wall. The check disc, which is prevented from turning, for example, by barbs or a corresponding handle projecting from the borehole, has a projecting spindle on which a wing screw is rotatably arranged in such a way as to drive the clamping disc. This ensures uniform pressing of the sealing ring. After the pressing operation is complete, the borehole plug can be extracted again by correspondingly turning back the wing screw and releasing the borehole plug and can subsequently be re-inserted in other boreholes. <IMAGE>
