PURPOSE:To improve the contact properties between a tape and a magnetic head and to eliminate the deterioration of frequency characteristics, the level change, etc. at a high band which is due to a spacing loss, by performing the polishing with the mutual rubbing between the vapor-deposited surfaces of the tape and the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A vapor-deposited layer 22 is provided on a base film 24. Then the vapor-deposited layers rub together to polish the surfaces of the vapor- deposited layers. In such a way, the minute coarseness on the surface of the vapor-deposited layer, which cannot be polished mechanically, can be polished to obtain a smooth surface for the vapor-deposited layer. A polishing device 10 of a magnetic tape 20 is provided with a feed roller 12, a sliding roller 14, a rotary roller 16 and a take-up roller 18, respectively. The surface of a vapor- deposited layer 22 is polished once at the going side and then again at the coming-back side, respectively. The polishing is possible with higher smoothness because the coarseness is large on the surface of the corresponding going side. |
