PURPOSE:To prevent previously a fatal defect of a magnetic tape head, by detecting and counting the non-output frequencies of the data for each block in a reading mode of a magnetic tape and then monitoring electrically and displaying the error state of the magnetic tape head and at the same time by giving an alarm. CONSTITUTION:A timing circuit 5 delivers a driving signal S2 by means of a detecting signal S1 supplied from a block discriminating circuit 3 and then opens a gate circuit 6 connected to a slicing circuit 4 for a proper period of time. A defective track detecting circuit 7 detects whether the reading data exists at tracks T1-T9 of a block B and then transmits error signals E1-E9. When an error signal E is delivered to a certain track, it means that a corresponding magnetic tape head 1 has a defect. A memory 8 receives the signal E and then counts and records the number of errors E for each track and each block B to transmit a state signal S3. A display part 9 divides these signals for each track to display the number of errors E and gives an alarm when the number of signals E exceeds a fixed limit value. |
