PURPOSE:To provide a fungicide containing a specific novel antibiotic substance derived from microorganism belonging to Streptomyces genus as an active component, and useful as an agricultural fungicide, pharmaceutical, etc. CONSTITUTION:The fungicide contains, as an active component, the novel antibiotic substance SI-4228 having the following properties. (a) Elemental analysis, C 62.1%, H 7.4%, N 0%; (b) molecular weight, 480 (by vapor pressure using chloroform as the solvent); (c) infrared absorption spectrum, as shown in the figure; (d) ultraviolet absorption spectrum, a particular pattern (omitted); (e) nuclear magnetic resonance specturm, a particular pattern (omitted), (f) specific rotation,[alpha]<25>D=+73 deg. (C=1.0, methanol); (g) solubility, soluble in methanol, benzene, etc. and insoluble in water and n-hexane; (h) neutral (by electrophoresis); (i) color reaction, positive to ferric chloride, etc. and negative to ninhydrin; (j) melting point, 114-116 deg.C; (k) appearance, white acicular crystal. The antibiotic substance SI-4228 is remarkably effective especially to gray mold, sheath blight, rice blast, etc. |
