997,129. Glazing vehicle windows. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. April 8, 1964 [April 24, 1963], No. 16230/63. Heading E1R. In a motor vehicle window where the glass 1 is bonded to the metal window frame 3 by e.g. a polysulphide rubber adhesive 15, a decorative moulding 17 is attached to the frame around the window aperture by a plurality of generally U-shaped spring clips 25 each secured as by the adhesive 15 with one limb resiliently engaging on a shoulder 9 of the window frame 5 vertically spaced from the edge of the glass 1 and with the other limb engaging the edge of the glass to locate the latter in its frame so as to prevent movement of the glass in its own plane and towards the frame surface while the adhesive 15 is setting. The base of each clip is so shaped as to allow the decorative moulding 17 to be clipped thereover. Each clip may be provided in addition or alternatively to the adhesive 15 with a barb which engages the shoulder 9, or it may be provided with a hole to receive a rivet head provided on the shoulder 9. The mouth of the clip may face the frame 3 as shown in Fig. 1 or oppositely as shown in Fig. 6. The shoulder 9 may have a strip of metal against which the barb engages and the frame may have a flange portion and each clip an extended leg portion or an extended shoulder to prevent spread of the adhesive 15. Each clip may be held in position by one limb clipping over a bracket secured on the shoulder 9, the bracket having flanged ends which support the glass 1 at its edge.
|
