PURPOSE:To detect the quantity of a toner with high accuracy and by a simple constitution, by placing a pair of electrodes at an interval in a collecting vessel, and providing a variation detecting means of conductivity between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A cleaning device 3 removes a remaining toner 2 on the surface of a selenium photosensitive body 1. A magnetic toner 34 is collected into a collecting vessel 33. The magnetic toner 34 is attracted and held by a magnet 4. In the vessel 33, electrode 51, 52 for detecting a prescribed quantity to be disposed are provided, and the quantity of a magnetic toner attracted by the magnet 4 is detected. When the toner collects between both the electrodes 51, 52, both the electrodes are conducted by a conductive factor of the toner, for instance, a magnetic body, and carbon, and it is detected by a detecting circuit 6 and is displayed on an alarm display 7.
