The title compd. (7) was prepd. by contacting gases (1) produced at an oxidizing reactor with water(2), adding polymn. inhibitor and using the gasfication heat of MeOH (5). The outline diagram of operation was presented by FigI. Thus, gases produced from catalysis of isobuthylene were induced to a rapid cooling tower and acid and high b.p. materials were removed to give a mixt. contg. methacrolein 4.3 mol. %, water 6.9 mol. %, N, O, CO2, CO and unreacted isobuthylene 88.7 mol. %. The mixt. and MeOH contg. anthraquinone 0.01 wt. % were fed to the tower. Gases discharged at the top of the tower was absorbed by MeOH and the title compd. was prepd. by removing water.
