PURPOSE:To increase standing performance after discharge by controlling the theoretical capacity of a cathode to 2.5 times or more the that of an electrolyte in a lead-acid battery formed by a cathode, an anode having larger capacity than the cathode, and a limited amount of electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed active mass paste is applied to a grid comprising lead-calcium alloy and dried to form each of an anode and a cathode. They are stacked with a separator placed in between and a sulfuric acid electrolyte is poured. At that time, the theoretical capacity of the cathode is controlled to 2.5 times or more that of the electrolyte, and the amount of electrolyte is limited in the manner that free electolyte does not exist actually, to form a retainer type lead-acid battery. Since lead sulfate which generates during discharge produces mainly in the place far from the grid, the active mass near the grid remains as PbO2. Therefore, standing performance after discharge of the battery is improved. |
