PURPOSE:To miniaturize a scanner using a non-storage solid-state image pickup sensor and at the same time to eliminate an evil effect of the generation of heat and a defective reading operation due to the insufficient luminance of a light source, by driving dynamically a light emitting diode array at a light source part. CONSTITUTION:An LED array 4 forming a light source part 2 is divided into plural light emitting blocks L1-L55 corresponding to image pickup blocks B1- B54. These blocks L1-L55 are arranged linearly along the blocks B1-B54, and each image pickup block extends over two light emitting blocks. The blocks L1-L55 are driven dynamically one by one from the end side by selection switches LS1-LS54 and via driving lines LX1-LX54. Then the switches LS1- LS54 are driven with the same timing as the selection signal of image pickup block selection switches SX1-SX54. As a result, only the light emitting block set at a position corresponding to the reading/scanning part position of a picture reading part 1 is selected and driven. |
